Hello and welcome to episode 004 of the Change:Maker Collective with Solomon Mehta-Slade and myself Joey Clifton.
After a short summer hiatus, we are delighted to be back with you in discussion about All Things Connection. Conversation about Connection is very timely - we do, after all, live in an increasingly disconnected world. In this episode Sol and I unpack that - what does it actually mean to be connected?
Specifically, you’ll find us riffing around:
That feeling connected isn’t automatic just because you’re in community. Firstly, find a community that serves and suits you is imperative. Within that, there are multiple elements to feeling connected including connection with self, others, and common purpose.
That connection is created through being with each other in a range of emotions - from very difficult challenges through to joy and celebration. If a community only facilitates being with the hard stuff it can quickly become a space that is heavy. Of course, the opposite is also true.
That putting our attention on other people, and being intentionally present in a space, really helps build connection. Conversations and interactions are often, by default, functional and surface level. We explore here that connection is perhaps more about being than doing - which I love.
Cultivating meaningful connection often takes time.
In this conversation we reference that the Change:Maker Collective is currently open to new members. Because communities are individual, if you’re interested but want to get a sense of what the C:MC is like, we are offering the chance to ‘taste’ it by joining us for a couple of sessions for free. Message Sol or I if you’d like to know more.
The Change:Maker Collective is a virtual home for purpose-led leaders to feel better resourced, elevate their impact, and be supported by a thriving peer-based community - you can find out more here.
Have a great week until then, thanks for reading.
Joey & Sol.
